Baptism
Why Baptism?
Jesus himself told us to baptize when he said, “Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”.
Baptism is a sacrament that the Holy Spirit uses to give and strengthen faith. Our Triune God’s name is put on those who are baptized as His adopted children. Through Baptism, they are connected to Jesus’ death and resurrection.
And so we baptize both children and adults because that is what we are called to do. We all have a deep need for baptism because we are all sinners in need of forgiveness. God gives us this promise, “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.”
Baptize & Teach
Don’t think that Baptism is all we do spiritually for ourselves and our children and nothing more. It is not something you do and then never come back to church. Rather Baptism is the beginning of one’s spiritual life!
Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
When you are baptized God is indeed at work in you, but he wants to keep on working in you through his Word that you might know and trust in Him even more. That is why we not only baptize, but we also teach, which continues for your entire life! When we baptize at St. Peter you are now part of our baptized family and you have begun a process that we hope continues into full communicant membership.
Baptism at St. Peter
If you or someone you know is interested in Baptism, please fill out the registration form below.
We have several special Baptism Sundays throughout the year, but a Baptism can also be done at any regular service. Additionally, Pastor Dunn is available to have a private Baptism service at other times as well.
We offer Baptism at no cost because it is a free gift that God gives us and tells us to share with others.
Before each Baptism Pastor Dunn will meet with the individual or parents several times before the Baptism to talk about what Baptism is, why we need it, and what comes after Baptism.
